Chavez reneged on on the contracts with Exxon-Mobil and the others, thus taking from them what was contractually theirs in the first place. Venezuela says the expropriated assets are worth $300 - $700 million, while Exxon-Mobil puts the figure at $12 billion. When Exxon-Mobil files it’s 10-K report we’ll have a better idea, since Sabanes-Oxley mandates that in effect the CEO must personally guarantee the accuracy of his company’s financial reports.
