Thuraya is a regional satellite network. It covers Europe, Middle-East, the major part of Africa and
Russia.
The Thuraya network allows to make voice calls, fax and data transfers. It is a bi-mode Satellite/GSM
system and integrates the GPS system.
Thuraya actually knows a strong development, especially in Africa, as it proposes a good quality of
service at a competitive price. The success of Thuraya is also due to the size of the handets, the
smallest of the market.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE NETWORK
Invoicing
Thuraya's rates are very competitive, especially for mobile to mobile calls.
There are two solutions of subscription : prepayment, with scratch cards or codes, and the traditional
postpaid.
Thuraya changed its pricing structure, as it was a little bit complicated at the beginning.
Voice services
The quality of Thuraya's voice services is as good as the GSM one.
Voice calls can be made over most of the Thuraya terminals.
Thuraya developed a specific terminals, the Public Calling Office, with lower call rates.
Data services
With the Thuraya network, data calls can be made at 9600 bps through all the equipment range, with an
optional data cable.
Thuraya also proposes a specific equipment for data transfers, the Thuraya DSL, which allows data
transfers up to 144 Kbps.
E-SAT can also provide you with compression softwares and solutions, in order to reduce the cost of
communications.
Fax can also be sent from Thuraya devices
User friendly
Thuraya handests are very easy to use, as the pointing is done automaticaly, after acquisition of
the GPS position.
GPS service
The GPS fonctionality allows the user to know its own position (more/less 100m) and to send it.

A large range of accessories is available, in order to match any customer's need.
SMS service
The SMS fonctionality is available through Thuraya handsets.
It is possible to send SMS from the Thuraya website for free.
