The rigorous peer-review board certification recognizes architects with technical and business skills with its MCA: Infrastructure, MCA: Solutions, and MCA: Messaging titles. The Microsoft Certified Architect certification is designed for individuals with significant breadth of knowledge and understanding of a variety of technologies, business processes, and leadership techniques. The Microsoft Certified Architect designation is a high level, peer-review board certification for IT professionals with over ten years of industry experience and at least four years of architect experience. Microsoft is looking for individuals with experience implementing Microsoft and non-Microsoft solutions in large scale environments. The review process includes technical and soft skills to ensure those certified have business skills to complement their technical abilities. Microsoft attempted to create a process which is vendor agnostic and reviews a candidate in these areas: technical depth, technical breadth, communication, organizational dynamics, leadership, strategy, and tactics. Joe Shirey, a member of the Microsoft Architect Advisory Board, said "in order to be an effective architect, an individual must possess soft skills, which can be very difficult to gauge using traditional testing methods.""Through a peer-review process, [Microsoft will] certify individuals who can successfully produce an architecture that solves business problems by employing Microsoft products," said Microsoft program manager Andy Ruth. Ruth said the process is not cheap, the application is $200 and the review process is $10,000. He contends that assembling the review board and employing a strict process are very expensive measures and this is partial cost recovery. The program has certified less than 100 people and those certified have on average twenty-five years of industry experience, indicating this program will be selective. Richard Godfrey, one of the earliest certified individuals, said it took him 80 hours to prepare the paperwork for submission. With few architect level certifications available in the industry, time will tell whether or not the Microsoft certification will make a significant impact.Search ExamPractice This Site is Not Affiiated with Microsoft.
